Chihuahua cross yorkshire terrier is a small designer dog, which is adored by all dog-fanciers around the world. The “breed” of such hybrid dog is called Chorkie. The parent dogs, a Yorkshire Terrier (originates from England) and a Chihuhua (originates from America) are considered to be the smallest ones in the world. Chorkie appeared in the early 90s of the last century as a result of their crossing.
Chorkies appearance is always a lottery, because it is difficult to guess whose genes will predominate, either a Chihuhua or a Yorkshire Terrier. As a rule chihuahua yorkshire terrier mix puppies have a tiny well-built body, a small head and large eyes. The puppies with brown or black coat can be seen the most frequently, but it is impossible to know this for sure in advance. The Chihuahua genes influence the color of the dogs more, than the York ones. The length of the coat can also be completely different, since it is a mixture of long-haired Yorkie and short-haired Chihuahua. Most often you can meet red halfbreed dog with long, straight and soft coat. The weight of Chorkie ranges from two to four kilograms and its size is 15-23 cm. Their lifespan is about 10-15 years.
As a result of chihuahua and yorkshire terrier mix you get a faithful, loving, kind and confident small friend, who will accompany you almost anywhere you want. But its temperament often differ from its cute appearance. Chorkie is a very clever, but extremely stubborn animal, which is difficult to train, just because of the nature of its character. On the one hand it adores playing with people and other animals, but if you vex it, even in the playful form, you may get a bite. So, it is better not to leave them with small babies, as the baby can pull the dog by the ear or tail and may be bitten in return. Naturally, this does not apply to all Chorkie, there are quite peaceful and extremely patient individuals among them. Early socialization and training are also of great importance for these animals. It is better not to leave the pet alone for a long time, as they suffer from a long distance separation.
It is recommended to brush long-haired dogs at least once in 3 days. It should be also washed, but not more than 2 times a month, and its nails should be cutted. Visits to the veterinarian and vaccinations are obligatory. Walking is necessary, but only in good weather. In winter it is better to stay indoors or, if you decide to go out, put a warm suit on your pet and keep it in hands. A full grown needs such procedures: daily wiping of its eyes with a cotton swab; brushing its teeth in order to prevent the accumulation of dental plaque and calculus formation.
In general, if you treat the dog well, it will become your best companion and good loyal friend.
